Courtney Crowder
A native of Southeast Raleigh, Courtney Crowder has over 25 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, and developing high-impact strategies. Crowder is the Managing Director & Chair of Advocacy for APCO Worldwide, an independent global public affairs and strategic communications consultancy. Before joining APCO, Crowder established Crowder Consulting Company in 2012. He also served as Legislative Director and senior advisor to Governor Beverly E. Perdue; counseled corporate, nonprofit, and governmental organizations at Capstrat; served as the Legislative Liaison for the North Carolina Department of Insurance and Special Assistant to Commissioner James E. “Jim” Long; and worked on the campaign and congressional staff for Congressman Bob Etheridge. Crowder has played an active role in campaigns at presidential, statewide, congressional, and local levels.
Crowder supports a wide range of causes, including education, public safety, affordable housing, the arts, and the state’s election system. He serves on the Boards of UNC Rex Healthcare, Delta Dental, Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, Southeast Raleigh Promise, and Advance Carolina, is the executive director of the North Carolina Black Alliance, and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
Crowder holds degrees in English literature and French from North Carolina Central University and an M.A. in liberal studies from Duke University. He also studied at Oxford University in Oxford, England where he completed a Program of History, Politics, and Society at Exeter College.
