Jason Armstrong

Chief of Police, Town of Apex

Jason Armstrong serves as the Chief of Police for the Town of Apex, North Carolina. Previously, he was the Chief of Police for Ferguson, Missouri and the Interim Chief of Police in Forest Park, Georgia. Armstrong is recognized as one of the nation’s top law enforcement leaders in the areas of community outreach and engagement and police reform. He is most known for his work in Ferguson, Missouri, working to build community trust while leading the department through reform efforts to ensure constitutional policing.

Armstrong is a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, The International Association of Chiefs of Police, and Fight Crime: Invest in Kids. He serves on numerous boards, including the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police, the Board of Directors for Special Olympics North Carolina, the Executive Board for the North Carolina Police Executives Association, and the Chief’s Advisory Committee for the North Carolina League of Municipalities. He has received numerous awards, including the 40 Under 40 Award from both the International Association of Chiefs of Police and North Carolina Central University and the Distinguished Alumnus in Public Service Award from Columbus State University. Armstrong holds a master’s degree in public safety administration, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and is a graduate of the inaugural Obama Foundation USA Leaders program.
